Why I've Been Rocking Winged Eyeliner Since 2010

When I was eleven years old I remember fantasizing about the wondrous days when I would finally be old enough to wear makeup out in public. There were of course times when I would playfully wear blue body glitter to a birthday party or quietly play with my mom’s makeup when she wasn’t looking. There was even a time when my best friend and I experimented with purple eye shadow and did each other’s winged eyeliner--before it was even cool. We were way ahead of our time ;) Now at seventeen years old, I must admit there are times when I dread having to wake up those extra fifteen minutes in the morning just so I can cover that blemish or swipe on some mascara so I can accentuate my eyelashes.
The makeup companies can make it challenging sometimes to appreciate your natural look. They provide you with all of the right products to achieve, “the look”, high cheekbones, perfect skin, and big lips. While I can appreciate a cream to hide a blemish I sometimes wonder why I’m applying everything. Who decides what “the look” is--and why does it even matter? Why does it matter if my face is rounder than hers, or if her eyes are smaller than mine?
I’m not here to completely bash makeup companies or suggest we boycott makeup altogether. I’m here because I think the real reason we should be wearing makeup has quickly vanished behind big and bright posters promising us with nearly impossible results. We should be wearing makeup to make ourselves feel better, to highlight our wonderful and unique traits because I promise we all have them. We should not be wearing makeup so that we can all look the same. What makes makeup wonderful is that it individualizes us. You can emulate “the look” but you cannot be her, and she cannot be you because you are “be-you-tiful”.

I’ve been rocking winged eyeliner since 2010. It may have taken a while to perfect the look (who doesn't love those long eagle wings??). The girl in the first photo may look ridiculous, but it’s only taken her a second from the very beginning to feel amazing when she wears it.

Start of Something New

I promised surprises (maybe I didn't) buuuut....SURPRISE!

I have decided I will start a new blog post segment called "Life Lessons I Learned From _____". I'll be picking classic movies that I love, and choosing small life lessons I learned from them. They'll probably dwell in the realm of anywhere between the Princess Bride to Never Been Kissed, and of course, my childlike fantasies like the Barbie movies.  They'll probably have to be once a month. So prepare yourself for some flipping awesome blog posts.

And in other news, Valentine's Day is literally here. I mean seriously, it's here. So I hope you get to be surrounded by those that you love, even if you do not have a significant other. Love can still exist within families and friends and there's no reason you can't celebrate that!

So in the spirit of the holidays I found y'all some cute e-cards.

In case you didn't know, I love Pride and Prejudice. So anything Darcy related I will most likely love. :)

Ciao my sisters (or misters if you're reading...?)

The Beginning of a New Era

You realize at this point in time, we're just as far away from 2030 as we are with 2000? It's quite crazy to think about and often baffles my own mind.

Anyway.

Hi, my name is Brittany! This is my third attempt at starting a blog, and perhaps the third time is the charm. I don't know what happens but whenever I start a blog, I get into a new phase or school gets harder. Slowly and sadly, I drop the blog. I apologize, but that's reality. So here I am now, older and wiser, but I still love to eat Lucky Charms for breakfast.
If you'll stay and join me for this ride, buckle in because it is going to be a bumpy ride! But no adventure comes without its drawbacks.

I know generally I should do introductions and give you a list all about the special snowflake that I am. But no, I'm not going to do it. Yep, that's right. I'm taking control of the keyboard now. In fact, here is my decree to Blogville.

You can call me Brittany. And that's all you need to know.
